West Chester- Joe Dan Norman, 82, passed away Monday October 9, 2017 at his home with his wife and family. Joe had been suffering from heart and respiratory problems.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Shirley (Detterline) Norman; His 2 daughters Debbie Neuschwander and Linda Evans; His son Daniel Norman, his wife Judy Norman; Six grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Peggy and husband Jack Lober, as well as his brother-in-law Ed Burton.

Joe was born and raised in Chester County, the son of D.L. and Jesse-Dean (Taylor) Norman. Joe lived and worked in the greater Philadelphia area for the majority of his life.

Joe met Shirley whilst both working for Girard Investment Company (Joe a repo man and Shirley the secretary). Joe was relocated to Toldeo, Ohio to start a new job with Sun Oil Company. Joe stayed in contact with Shirley and married on September 3, 1955. Joe and Shirley had a daughter in Ohio and moved home to PA.  Joe continued his Job with Sun Oil and became an active contributor with his local church.  Joe and Shirley had two more children and became settled in the community.

After working for 35 years, Joe retired in 1989. This allowed Joe to focus on his passion of helping others and spreading gospel. Joe and Shirley contributed to multiple charities and missionary funds to help assist others.  Joe was a primary figure in his family’s development and growth process. Joe was highly active with his children and grandchildren and could not step away from his role as a father.

Joe’s legacy will continue with friends and family with the compassion and caring he demonstrated. With the Lord as his guiding feature, Joe cared for all persons around him and could never harm or do anyone wrong. Being the example of joy, happiness, and selfless kindheartedness he has left this world a better place.

Services will be held at Calvary Fellowship Church in Downingtown, Pennsylvania at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 14th.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to Mainline Health Hospice.
