Christopher Philip Conway, 50, of West Chester, passed away Friday, July 21, at his home after a long illness.

Chris battled Myotonic Dystrophy throughout his life, but he did not let that stop him from living his life. He fulfilled his childhood goal of becoming an auto mechanic and, even in his later years when physical activity became a challenge, loved working with coworkers and customers as a cashier at Croppers Market in Downingtown. He found great purpose in continuing to work for as long as he was able.

Chris was born November 27, 1966, to Barbara Conway and the late Philip Conway. A longtime resident of West Chester, Chris graduated from Henderson High School in 1985. He was a member of Saints Philip and James Church in Exton for most of his life.

Family and friends will always remember Chris’s great love – baseball and the Phillies. A former little league player, Chris attended Phillies home games as a season ticket holder whenever he was able and took great delight in eating hotdogs and attempting to catch that elusive fly ball with his father’s baseball mitt.

Chris was also an avid Star Trek fan who collected so many Star Trek Christmas ornaments over the years that his mother ultimately surrendered her Christmas tree to Captain Kirk and Spock. Chris also never met a “vintage” movie he didn’t like, with the largest collection of 80s B movies his family has ever seen.

Besides his beloved mother Barbara, Chris is survived by three sisters: Lori Fergus (Patrick), Lisa Macartney (Frank), and Gina Conway; one brother Timothy Conway (Joey Lynn); two nephews: Brendan and Patrick Fergus; three step nephews: Joseph Macartney, and Tyler and Jacob Barlow; and one step niece Andrea Macartney. In addition, he is survived by two uncles and many cousins.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, July 25th, from 7-9 pm at Logan Funeral Home, Exton, and Wednesday, July 26th, from 10-11 am at Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, also in Exton. A funeral mass in celebration of Chris’s life will be held at the church following the viewing on Wednesday at 11 am. Internment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Chris’s name to the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation at 1004-A O’Reilly Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94129 or online at www.Myotonic.org.

Despite their sorrow, Chris’s family knows that he is playing baseball with his dad in heaven.
