Wilma Frueh Obituary

Wilma J. (Schellhas) Frueh went home to be with her Lord on Monday, March 18, 2024; age 77 years. Wilma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother ("GeeGee"), and a wonderful friend to all who knew her.

Wilma was born on February 22, 1947 in Saginaw, MI to the late Otto and Erna (Block) Schellhas. She grew up on the Schellhas family farm in Vassar, MI and graduated from Frankenmuth High School in 1965. She attended Concordia Lutheran Junior College in Ann Arbor, MI and Concordia Teacher's College in River Forest, IL, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Teaching in 1969.

Following graduation she was placed as an elementary school teacher at Calvary Lutheran School in Havertown, PA and taught from 1969-1976. It was at Calvary Lutheran Church that she met her husband, Don. She was married to Donald C. Frueh on June 26, 1971 with whom she shared 46 years of marriage; he predeceased her in 2018.Once their two children arrived, Wilma stayed home to care for them, dedicating her life to being a fantastic and caring mother. In 2020, she moved to Buffalo, NY where she was able to be closer to her granddaughters and build a new community of friends.

Wilma will be remembered for her faith, devotion to her family and friends, and acts of service. She was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod and an active volunteer for a variety of organizations her entire life. A natural artist, her creative talents came through in her quilting and sewing projects, including sewing lap blankets for nursing homes and hospitals. She sang in the church choir, held a variety of roles in the church, and served as a parent volunteer with the Haverford Middle School music department for 15 years.

Wilma is survived by her two children: Andrew (Karen Copeland) Frueh, Salt Lake City, UT and Abigail (Kevin) Size, Buffalo, NY; two granddaughters, Madeline and Elizabeth Size; four siblings, Fred (Carol) Schellhas, Frankenmuth, MI; Ed (Joy) Schellhas, Holt, MI; Julie (Rodney) Mara, Stockton, CA; and Mark Schellhas, Caro, MI; and many nieces and nephews.
