William A. Mattiford, known affectionately as Bill to his friends and family, passed away suddenly on August 16, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on July 2, 1946, Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend who left a lasting impression on the lives of those he touched.
Son of the late Ralph and Julia (Kaminski) Mattiford, Bill grew up in Lester, PA and graduated from Eddystone High School. He went on to earn a B.S. in Environmental Health from West Chester University. His career in the energy industry spanned several decades. His passion for safety led him to a distinguished career as a Certified Safety Professional. He served as the Director of Occupational Health and Safety for Exelon Corporation (formerly PECO) and later as the Vice President of Corporate Safety at Henkels & McCoy.
A true Philadelphian at heart, he was an avid fan of the Phillies and Eagles, his loyalty never wavering through the seasons. Bill also had a passion and talent for music which led him to taking part in several drum and bugle corps over the years. Summers would find him in Stone Harbor, where he cherished spending time with his family, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Diane; his children: William Jr, Tracy (Dan) Lampl, Bob (Brie), and Laura; Grandchildren: Amanda, Cameron, Rhys and Keane; and sister, Gerry McBride. He is predeceased by his brothers, Richard and James Mattiford. Bill was a pillar of strength and support for his family and friends, always at the ready to lend a hand or tool. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
