William H. Gallagher

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William H. Gallagher, aged 81, who departed this life peacefully on April 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.  William proudly served his country in the United States Army and later dedicated many years of service as a driver for the United States Postal Service.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elizabeth R. Gallagher (nee Costello) who he was married to for 58 years.  Also predeceased by his son, Michael; and his precious granddaughters, Briana and Amber.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion. William is survived by his children: William, Sheila (Jimmy) Manion, Shannan (John) Friel, and Christopher. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to William (Amanda), Seamus (Jessica), Brooke, Michael, James, Sean, Ryan, Danny, Liam, Owen, Rory, Christopher, Shay, and Nora. His joy continued through his great-grandchildren: Nolan, Billy, Tommy, Nellie, Seamus, Nina, and Michael.  Loving brother of Kathleen (the late Bernard) McPoyle, Anne (Andrew) Terifay and the late Mary (James) Cannon, Josephine (Gerald) Smyth, and John Gallagher.  Also survived by his sister-in-law, Betty Jane Gallagher, brother-in-law William (Ellen) Costello and many cherished nieces and nephews.

William’s life was grounded in family and guided by quiet strength, deep kindness, and unwavering love. He brought laughter, wisdom, and warmth to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be missed beyond measure and remembered always.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation 9:30 - 10:45 A.M. Thursday, April 10, 2025 at St. Gabriel Church, 2917 Dickinson Street, Philadelphia, PA 19146 followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M.  Interment SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
