Wilhelmina Lerman Obituary

Wilhelmina “Myna” Veronica (Boyle) Lerman - 83, of Havertown, PA; formerly of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at home with her family present at her side.

Wilhelmina was born to Hugh Boyle and Monica (Gravelle) Boyle in Pittsburgh, PA on May 12, 1936. She was wife to the late Joseph Lerman, and sister to the late Patrick Boyle, the late Hugh Boyle, Roderick Boyle, the late Edward Boyle, James Boyle, Patricia Boyle, Monica (Boyle) Martinez, the late Grace (Boyle) Keeler and the late Jack Boyle.

In her younger years, Wilhelmina worked as an accomplished actress in both Pennsylvania and the city of New York. She received training at both the Hedgerow Theatre in Moylan, PA and HB Studios in New York, NY. Wilhelmina appeared in numerous theater productions in various roles between the years of 1959 to 1965. Most notably, Wilhelmina starred alongside Harry Morgan, of television series “M*A*S*H” fame, in a production of “Send Me No Flowers” at the Grist Mill Playhouse in Andover, NJ, July 2-7, 1962. Wilhelmina also worked as a model during the time of her career in theater.

Wilhelmina was raised in the Brewerytown section of Philadelphia, not far from the Philadelphia Zoo. The Philadelphia Zoo and surrounding area was one of her most favorite places to visit and share with others. She was an avid admirer and protector of animals throughout her lifetime, as she viewed all living creatures as children of God. She was especially fond of her dog Balki, who was with her for fifteen years.

Wilhelmina devoted her life and time to her children following their births in 1969 and 1973 respectively. Her daily care, love and guidance was instrumental in the raising of her children, and has produced many priceless memories and life lessons that they will carry throughout their lifetimes.

Wilhelmina had many varied interests during her lifetime and she was an accomplished artist and poet. She enjoyed crafts such as card making and rubber stamping. She created many free-standing assemblages as well as paintings. Her haiku poetry was published under the name Minna Lerman in two separate volumes, Haiku Moment, c.1993, and Haiku World, c.1996. She was a voracious reader throughout her life and, as such, possessed an extensive and impressive vocabulary. The works of Shakespeare and Jane Austen were among her favorites, as were the mysteries written by Robert B. Parker.

Wilhelmina was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Lerman, and is survived by her daughter LeAnna Lora Mealey and husband, Michael of Havertown, PA and son Benjamin Aaron Lerman and wife Jennifer and grandson Aaron Joseph Lerman of Perkiomenville, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents.
