Wayne Crawford Obituary

Wayne Maurice Crawford, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, in Philadelphia, at the age of 74. Born on September 23, 1950, in Upper Darby, Wayne was the beloved son of Caroline Isabel (Fossett) Crawford and the late Kenneth Howarth Crawford.

Wayne's life was marked by his enduring commitment to his family, his work, and his country. He proudly served in the United States Air Force as a communications specialist, a role he carried out with great dedication. Wayne was a very proud American and held his military service close to his heart throughout his life.

In June of 1970, he married the love of his life, Edith (Palmer) Crawford, and they shared 55 years of marriage. Together they built a family rooted in love and laughter. Wayne was a devoted father to his children, Daniel Crawford; Christine (Crawford) Cheng, and her husband DeDe Cheng; and Cheryl (Crawford) Powers, and her husband Brandon Powers. Wayne's role as a grandfather to Michael, Andrew, and Isaac brought him immeasurable joy and pride.

Wayne's sense of humor, love, and handy skills made him a pillar in the lives of those who knew him. He was often the center of attention at family gatherings, where his jokes and stories would echo with laughter. Wayne's nurturing spirit extended beyond his immediate family to include his siblings, the late Kenneth Crawford, Jr., and Carolyn (Crawford) Gorman, wife of the late Robert Gorman. He was a beacon of strength and support within his family, always there to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.

An alumnus of Upper Darby High School, Wayne was well-known for his work ethic and dedication. He honed his skills through on-the-job training with Conrail and SEPTA, where he served as a Signal Maintainer for 35 years before retiring in 2011. His colleagues at SEPTA will remember him as a reliable and hardworking individual who was always willing to go the extra mile to ensure the safety and efficiency of the city's public transportation system.
