Vilasini Bhaskar Rao Obituary

“I AM the Resurrection and the Life. Whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die." John 11:25-26

Vilasini Hannah Bhaskar Rao, a loving mother and devoted wife, went home to be with the Lord on December 17, 2025, surrounded by her family in Chester Springs, USA, at the age of 72. Born on August 27, 1953, in Chennai, India, to the late Dr. Stanley Samuel and Angelina (Chelliah) Lawrence, Vilasini's life was a tapestry of kindness, love, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith.

Vilasini's academic journey culminated in a Master of Science (Home Science and Child Development) from University of Madras, which propelled her into a fulfilling career as a professor & Head of the Department of Home Science at the Quaid-E-Millath Government College for Women, Chennai. Her passion for education and empowerment of women left an indelible mark on her students, many of whom went on to make significant contributions to society.

A woman of many talents, Vilasini was known for her love of crosswords and art & crafts, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life such as walking, gardening, and decorating her house. Her house was always a warm and welcoming place, adorned with the flowers she loved so dearly, especially roses. Vilasini's culinary skills were unmatched, and her cooking brought together family and friends in celebration of both everyday moments and special occasions.

Vilasini's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. A dedicated member of Windsor Baptist Church in Downingtown, she lived her beliefs through acts of kindness and charity, touching the lives of all who knew her. She was active member of the church served in the Preschool board and attended various small groups regularly. Her faith in Christ was unwavering especially during her final years where she endured a lot of pain and suffering due to her medical condition.

Vilasini's love for travel often took her back to her roots in India, where she experienced one of her proudest moments - witnessing her son's marriage in August, surrounded by the rich culture and traditions that she held so dear.

Vilasini's legacy is carried on by her loving spouse, Benjamin "Baskar"  Baskara Rao with whom she shared 45 years of marriage; her son, Samuel "Sammy" Rajkumar and her daughter-in-law, Indhumathi "Indhu". She  was also a dear sister to Richard "Raja" Lawrence, husband of the late Rhamiya Lawrence, and Moses Lawrence; and sister-in-law to Sudarshan Samuel, husband of Indrani Sudarshan and Nalini Selvakumar, wife of late Dr. A.D. Selvakumar. She also was a beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews who she deeply loved and cherished. Each family member reflects a facet of her radiant spirit, from her nurturing love to her unwavering strength.

Described by those who knew her as faith-filled, creative, and kind, Vilasini's life was a testament to the power of love and the beauty of a life well-lived. Her presence will be sorely missed, yet her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her grace and generosity.

As we bid farewell to Vilasini Hannah Bhaskar Rao, we celebrate a life that was truly a gift to all. Her journey on Earth may have come to a close, but her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she loved and served. Rest in peace, dear Vilasini, until we meet again.
