Susan Jims Obituary

Susan Marie (McElaney) Jims, a beacon of joy and laughter, passed away on May 15, 2025, in Wynnewood. Born on February 4, 1947, in Philadelphia, Susan was a woman whose vibrant spirit and friendly demeanor touched the lives of all who knew her.

Susan was the cherished daughter of the late Daniel F. and Madeline E. (Brooks) McElaney. She was a loving and devoted mother to Kimberly Norris, Kelly McCormick, and Michael McCormick and his wife, Cullen. Her grandchildren, Ryan, Liam, Shannon, and Mary Grace, were the light of her life, and she embraced every moment spent with them.

She is survived by a large and loving family, including her siblings: Daniel McElaney, husband of the late Kathleen; Madelone Milliken, wife of the late Frederick; Michael McElaney and his wife, Joan; Teresa O'Neill and her husband, Richard; Patricia McElaney; James McElaney and his wife, Gerwayne; and Anne Marie Roe and her husband, Francis. Susan was a cherished aunt to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom will miss her deeply

A former member of the Havertown YMCA, Susan believed in the importance of community and giving back. She dedicated her time to volunteering at soup kitchens, ensuring that those less fortunate were provided with warm meals and a kind word. Her generosity of spirit was evident in everything she did.

Susan had a passion for baking, crocheting, and the simple joys of life. Her Christmas cookies were legendary, and so were the afternoons spent making them with anyone she could fit into her kitchen. She had a talent for crocheting and made beautiful blankets for all the babies in the family, a testament to her love and creativity.

Friends and family will remember Susan for her "violently funny" sense of humor. She loved being silly, laughing, and spreading happiness wherever she went. Her love for the shore was well-known, and she cherished every moment spent by the sea, surrounded by the laughter of her loved ones.

Those who knew Susan would describe her as funny, creative, friendly and brutally honest—a woman who brought joy, silliness and mostly laughter into the lives of others, until her time was up. Her legacy will live on in the stories shared, the blankets she made, and the indelible imprint she left on the hearts of those she loved.
