Stephen James “Steve” Ogden, born on February 16, 1951, in the Overbrook section of Philadelphia, passed away on April 18, 2026, in Broomall, leaving behind a life marked by warmth, loyalty, and a genuine love for family, friends, and community.
Steve was the beloved son of the late Lloyd Thomas “Tom” and Mary Elizabeth (Doyle) Ogden and stepmother, Catherine A. Ogden. He was raised with strong values that stayed with him throughout his life, and he carried those values into every relationship and every endeavor. He was also predeceased by his brother, the late Tom Ogden. Steve is survived by his devoted wife, Catherine “Cathy” Theresa (Webb) Ogden, who shared in the many joys of his life, and by their children, Stephen “Steve” J. Ogden, Jr. of Broomall and Cathryn “Katie” A. Ogden Kennedy and her husband, Josh, of Lafayette Hill. He was a proud grandfather to Josh, Jr., Carter, and Jack, and he treasured every moment spent with them. He also leaves behind his cherished fur grandchildren, Rosie and Red, and he was predeceased by Weezy, who held a special place in his heart.
Steve attended St. Joseph’s Preparatory School and later Drexel University, where he built upon the foundation that would serve him well in both business and life. He was a hardworking and capable man who owned and operated the family business, Ogden Brothers Inc., for more than 25 years. Through his dedication, steady leadership, and practical knowledge, he helped carry forward the family name with pride. After his years with Ogden Bros., he sold the family business to WB Mason, where he eventually retired after a successful career. Steve was known as someone who could figure out any gadget, and his quick-witted nature was matched by his generous spirit and friendly manner.
Outside of work, Steve embraced life with enthusiasm and energy. He was a member of Springton Tennis, Llanerch Country Club, Spring Run Golf Club, and an honorary member of Aronimink where he cherished his time playing tennis and golf. He also enjoyed playing pickleball with his grandson, Josh, Jr. Steve was very social and enjoyed being around people, whether at the club, at family gatherings, or simply spending time with friends. He loved going to the beach and found great joy in being with his grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and happiness. A devoted fan of the Sixers, Eagles, and Phillies, Steve followed Philadelphia sports with the loyalty and passion that only a true local fan could understand. In private, he was also a guitar player, and music provided another meaningful outlet for his personality and spirit.
Those who knew Steve will remember his humor and him as friendly and generous, qualities that defined the way he lived and the way he treated others. He had a natural ability to make people feel welcome and at ease, and he was always willing to lend a hand when someone needed help. His presence brought comfort and steadiness, and his easygoing nature made him a pleasure to be around. He valued family above all else, and his love for Cathy, his children, and his grandchildren was evident in everything he did.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation for Steve on Thursday, April 23rd, 2026 from 6 to 8:00pm at Logan-Videon Funeral Home, 2001 Sproul Rd., Broomall, PA 19008 and again on Friday, April 24th, 2026 at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Rd., Broomall, PA 19008. He will especially be remembered for the kindness and generosity that he extended so freely to others. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
