Stephen (Steve) Macanga, born November 24, 1946, passed away surrounded by his loving family on October 5, 2021 at the age of 74. Steve resided in Chester Springs, Pa with Sandy Fillippo, his life partner of 42 years.
Steve grew up in Belmont Hills and graduated from Harriton High School in 1965. It is here that Steve formed so many life-long friendships that he deeply cherished.
In 1968 Steve went into the asphalt paving business, and S.A. MACANGA INC. was born. The company is located in West Chester, Pa. For the next 50+ years he paved, built, and maintained roads and parking lots throughout Southeastern Pa. Steve was an extremely successful paving contractor with a reputation for professional, high-quality work. He took great pride in his skilled work force, impressive equipment, attention to detail, and finished product.
Steve had a passion for aviation. He was a very skilled private pilot. He was licensed to fly fixed wing aircraft, helicopters, and sea planes. Sunny weekends were often spent flying his Piper Saratoga or Enstrom helicopter to the Jersey shore, Maryland’s eastern shore, or various airports… provided there was a restaurant close by.
Steve was also an advocate for helping homeless animals. He was a corporate sponsor for the Brandywine Valley SPCA. He and Sandy attended many events and especially looked forward to the Forget-Me-Not Gala every year.
Steve’s adventurous and kind spirit was sadly and abruptly cut short, but his impact on so many will live on. He was truly unique and one of a kind.
Steve is survived by his beloved soulmate Sandy; his son Steve Macanga Jr.; loving daughter Kimberly Tarr (Carl Tarr), and 5 grandchildren.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held Sunday October 17th at Logan Funeral Home in Exton, Pa. Visitation from 9:30 – 11:00, and a service from 11:00 – 11:30.
Should friends desire, as an expression of sympathy, donations can be made in Steve’s name to the BVSPCA. In this way his generosity to this very deserving institution will continue to help homeless animals.
