Shirley M. (Hutton) Jones of Media, PA, age 96, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026. Born on February 21, 1929, in Darby, Pennsylvania, Shirley was the cherished daughter of the late Harry E. and Mary S. (Parkes) Hutton, the beloved sister of the late Warren Hutton, and loving wife of the late Richard T. Jones, Sr.
Shirley graduated from Haverford High School in 1946 and went to work at Philadelphia Electric Company where she met Dick. In 1951, they were married at St. George’s Episcopal Church, Ardmore, PA.
Shirley’s greatest desire in life was to be a mom. Her happiest moments were those spent surrounded by her children, Susie (Jeff) Grant, Janet (Kevin) Bergen, Barbara (Eric) Simpson, Lorraine (Dave) Kibitelsky, and Rick (Kristi) Jones, and later her 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. As “The Mommom”, she rejoiced in being part of their lives, whether traveling, going on adventures, or playing games together. She valued their growing years and was fortunate to share in their graduations and weddings.
After spending most of their married life in Broomall, Shirley and Dick moved to Granite Farms Estates in 2003. Putting her high energy and social personality to work she immediately became actively involved in her new community. Shirley organized “The Water Lilies,” passing out water and smiles to residents in Willowbrooke Court, attended as many of the activities as she could, and played countless games with her friends.
Shirley was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend whose greatest joy in life was simply being with the people she loved. Her dedication to her family will be remembered forever.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, February 13, 2026 from 9 to 10:00am at St. George's Episcopal Church, 1 West Ardmore Ave., Ardmore 19003. Funeral service will follow in the church on Friday at 10:00am. Burial will be at Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George’s Episcopal Church, 1 West Ardmore Ave., Ardmore PA 19003
