Ruth Powell Stafford

On February 19, 2023, Ruth Powell Stafford, 83, passed away from a long illness at Wesley Enhanced Living in Media, PA.

Ruth was born in Toms River, NJ on September 22, 1939.  When she was young, her family moved to New Mexico, and eventually, settled in Pennsylvania, where her father was the Head of the Math Department at the Haverford School.

Ruth loved the outdoors, the beach, tanning, softball, singing in the church choir, counted cross stitch, and camping with her family.  Ruth and her sister, Lois, were ping pong champions at Haverford Senior High School. After graduation, she attended Peirce Business School, and then worked as a secretary at Lockheed Martin in Florida.  Eventually, she moved back to Pennsylvania, and met her husband through a mutual friend, Margaret Scott. Ruth and Sam were married on November 18, 1961, and had three daughters.  Ruth was a wonderful stay-at-home mom, who was fun, loving, kind, thoughtful and giving. She was a big kid at heart.   Each of her children came to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ through her guidance.  After raising her children, she had the opportunity to be an integral part of her grandchildren’s lives.

Ruth is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Sam, daughters Robin (Mike), Wendy (Thomas), and Sue (Marty), and grandchildren Lauren, Rachel, Luke, and Matthew.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 25, at Aldan Union Church, 7 E. Providence Road, Aldan, PA 19018.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., and the funeral service in the sanctuary at 11:00 a.m. Lunch to follow downstairs in Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Aldan Union Church’s Women’s Fellowship or Disabled Veterans of America.
