Robert “Bob” Lincoln Bender

Passed away suddenly at Bryn Mawr Hospital on August 29, 2021, age 85. Born in Long Branch, NJ to the late Walter and Catherine (Schaller) Zielenski. He was a graduate of West Catholic High School in 1953 and continued his education at Drexel University pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. Bob started working at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, and after 5 years moved on to the General Electric Co. employed as a Mechanical Engineer at 32nd and Chestnut Sts for 30 years, retiring in 1990.

Bob enjoyed yacht motor boating in the Chesapeake Bay out of Rock Hall, Maryland.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years Janice (nee Hickey), whom he married in 1987.  He is also survived by his children Walter (Agnes) Bender, Lorraine (Bennie) Pino, Tobi (Ryan) Sullivan, Joseph Bender, Robert Bender, 12 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Bob was predeceased by his brothers Joseph and John Bender, and his first wife Margaret (nee Kuszmaul).

Graveside Service Wednesday, September 8th at 11:30 at Glenwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 2321 West Chester Pike, Broomall, Pa. 19008 in the Garden of Peace section.  This will be the only service. There will be no viewing due to Covid restrictions and the different degrees of symptoms the family is having. We request all family and friends to please wear masks and social distance.  If you would like to say a few words about Bob, there will be an opportunity at the end of the service. We request that no flowers be sent. Please understand that we will not have a gathering after the service.  We hope that you go home afterwards and enjoy a good scotch and water for Bob.
