Robert J. McDonnell, age 91, of Ocean City, New Jersey passed away on November 30, 2025. Robert was born on July 31, 1934 to Florence and Michael McDonnell in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Margaret (Sally) McDonnell and his four children, Mary Norword (Bob), Michele Reichow (Chris), Stephen McDonnell (Tara) and Christine Ensminger (Matt), his seven beloved grandchildren, Meghan Norwood, Evan Norwood, Ainsleigh Reichow, Griffin Reichow, Maren McDonnell, Kira McDonnell and Carey McDonnell and his brother Michael (Ellen). He is preceded in death by his brother David (Mary) and sisters Florence (Bernie) and Kathleen (John).
Robert graduated from Saint Joseph’s Prep, Drexel University and George Washington Law. He established a law practice in his home town of Yeadon, PA and then a few blocks from the family home in Drexel Hill, PA. He served his clients with skill, integrity, and compassion for 55 years.
Robert was endlessly active, and treasured spending time with his family, whether it was fixing something around the house, participating in sports or traveling. He was an avid traveler who explored the world with his beloved wife or could be found golfing, skiing and sailing with family and friends. When he wasn’t on the move, Robert could be found reading or enjoying educational programs, always eager to learn something new.
Robert will be remembered for his energy, his devotion to his family, his love of adventure, and the generosity with which he shared his time and talents
Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation 9:30 - 10:45 A.M. on Monday, December 8, 2025 at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 2nd Street & Atlantic Avenue, Ocean City, NJ 08226 followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. Interment at a later date.
