Reverend Richard J. McAndrews, Jr., Pastor Emeritus, Epiphany of Our Lord Church, Plymouth Meeting, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, November 18, 2021 at Little Flower Manor.

Born in Philadelphia on March 12, 1941, a son of the late Richard J. and Elizabeth M. (nee Lauer) McAndrews. He graduated from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in 1963. He was ordained on May 20, 1967 by Most Reverend John J. Krol, D.D., J.C.D. He then went on with his education and received his Master’s from La Salle University in 1975.

Father Richard was first Assistant Pastor at Epiphany, Plymouth Meeting in 1967. He joined the faculty of Cardinal Dougherty High School in Philadelphia in 1968. Later he became the Assistant Pastor of SS. Peter & Paul in West Chester in 1982. In 1987, he was the Assistant Pastor at St. Monica in Philadelphia and in 1989 he was the Assistant to the Secretary for Clergy. He become the Pastoral Vicar at Blessed Virgin Mary in Darby in 1992, Pastor at Nativity Blessed Virgin Mother in Philadelphia in 1995, Pastor at Epiphany in Plymouth meeting in 2002, Senior Priest at Corpus Christi in Lansdale in 2009 and Senior Priest at St. Isadore in Quakertown in 2011.

Father Richard was a member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians and the Knights of Columbus. He loved traveling, especially to the Holy Land. He traveled to Canada, Ireland, and Central PA to visit friends. Father Richard especially loved visits with his sister's family in Cape May, NJ and going to the seashore. He was known to always have a smile. Personal interactions were very important to him; he performed numerous ceremonies for family and friends including weddings, baptisms, and funerals. Even when his health was declining, he always had a positive disposition, never complained, and he was strong in his faith. Family was paramount to him. He was a man of the people, a good shepherd.

Surviving are his siblings: Martin McAndrews of Lima, Joseph McAndrews and his wife, Dorothea of Sewell, NJ, Edward McAndrews and his wife, Grace of Swarthmore, George McAndrews, husband of the late Marian of Philadelphia, James McAndrews, husband of the late Helen of Havertown, Elizabeth (nee McAndrews) Glavin and her husband, Denis of Newton Square, John McAndrews and his wife, Antoinette of Springfield, Robert McAndrews and his wife, Anne of Springfield and Patrick McAndrews of Springfield; his aunt, Margaret Porter, wife of the late James of Newton Square and cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 11am in Saint Francis of Assisi, 136 Saxer Ave., Springfield, PA 19064. A viewing will be in the church on Tuesday from 9 to 10:45am prior to the mass. Father Richard will be laid to rest in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
