Pedro Guillen Obituary

Pedro Guillen, a beloved father, grandfather, and eldest sibling, passed away peacefully of natural causes on March 6, 2026 at his home in Haverford, Pennsylvania with family at his side. Originally from Mexico, Pedro became a true American success story by being a risk-taker in life, love, and career.

Pedro was born on June 8, 1945 in Mexico City, Mexico to the late Alicia and Pedro Guillen. The son of a United Nations representative, Pedro was exposed from an early age to the possibilities offered by the wider world. In addition to growing up in one of the largest cities in the world, he and his family lived in Bolivia and the Dominican Republic for several years, and he traveled with them to other Latin American nations as well as the United States.

While studying mathematics at the National University of Mexico, Pedro met a girl from Maine who was studying abroad in Mexico City. This would change the direction of his life, as he left Mexico in 1970 to marry Dorothy (Dolly) Evans Guillen, his wife of 54 years until her passing in 2024.

Moving to the United States was not an easy transition, but Pedro persevered. As a non-English speaker, he had to begin his career by working factory jobs despite having a university education. Through hard work and sacrifice, he eventually broke into telecommunications, which led him to projects in many countries across four continents. While his job required him to be away from his family for significant periods of time, it also afforded them opportunities to visit places they otherwise wouldn’t have been able to see. Never shying away from new challenges, later in his career he started a Mexican subsidiary of a technology startup, and he ended his career as an IT executive at large, multinational corporations.

In addition to his work, Pedro was extremely dedicated to his family. In between work trips, he made time to coach his sons’ soccer teams when the boys were young and attended many of their school and extracurricular activities. Pedro also supported his family back in Mexico for decades and has provided a legacy to enable this support to continue. And after his wife could no longer remain at home following complications from a stroke, he dutifully visited her for hours every day at her nursing home.

As an immigrant and minority in the United States, civil rights and equal rights were important causes to him. He was a generous contributor to organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union and the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Pedro was proud to raise two sons, Steven and Nicolas, who have gone on to have their own successful careers in medicine and technology, respectively. He is survived by them, his daughters-in-law, Kim and Tania, his four grandchildren, Tristan (19), Emelina (18), Treble (13), and Clio (13), and his three siblings, Irma, Silvia, and Eduardo.
