Patricia Thompson Obituary

Patricia Thompson (Tanzola)
“Patty,” “Pat,” “Miss Pat”
September 16, 1941 – June 4, 2025

With love in our hearts and profound gratitude for the life she lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Patty Thompson on June 4, 2025, at the age of 83.

Born on September 16, 1941, in South Philadelphia to Joseph and Eleanor Tanzola, Patty’s life was one of kindness, humor, and unwavering love. A proud graduate of Saint Richard Elementary and Saint Maria Goretti High, she remained close with many of her school friends throughout her life.

Her career took her from General Electric, where she met the love of her life, Walt, to Mellon Bank, and in between, as a beloved lunch mother and substitute teacher at Saint Clement School in Southwest Philadelphia—where many fondly called her Mrs. T. No matter where she worked, Patty built lasting friendships and became a second family to those around her including her wonderful Train Buddies or Septa Sisters.

Patty was full of passion and joy. A voracious reader long before "True Crime" was a genre, she could often be found with a book in hand, ideally under the sun on her beloved beach. Her happy place was always near the ocean, surrounded by the people she loved most. She loved a full house. She adored the simple, sweet moments in life—a shopping trip, lunch with her kids or friends, a perfectly cooked steak at Ruby Tuesday’s (much to her son-in-law's chagrin), or simply sitting and laughing with the ones she loved. Her home, especially at Christmas, was pure magic. She poured her heart into making the holidays joyful and unforgettable, always delighting in spoiling her children and their families, and her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Walt, whose memory she held in her heart every single day. Patty is survived by her loving children: Kelly, along with her family, Mark and Markie; Christopher, and his wife, Kristin; and Daniel and his love, Regina. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the dear friends and neighbors on Greenhouse Drive, who were always there for her. Your friendship and care meant the world to her—and to them.

As we say goodbye, we don’t just mourn her loss—we celebrate her life. A life filled with laughter, stories, dancing, sun-soaked days, and endless love. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
