Mildred Pellegrino (Laurie), 97, passed away in the early morning hours of August 24, 2023.
Mildred was born January 29, 1926 in “the Meadows” of Southwest Philadelphia to the late Robert and Adelein (Welsh) Laurie. She had great memories of her childhood days with her four siblings and their family horses and would often share these stories.
As a young adult Mildred remained in Southwest Philadelphia where she married the love of her life, Dominic Pellegrino. They were blessed with three children: Pat, Robert, and Laurie.
Mildred spent her days caring for her family. She was an avid baker and enjoyed cooking. She worked for many years and eventually retired from work at Arcos. She joined a variety of senior citizen groups where she loved playing Bingo, telling jokes, and talking with friends. Mildred loved to work on her “projects.” She could often be found sewing, working on plastic canvas or needle point and crocheting. Dance was always a fun pastime. From her early days of the boxstep with her husband, Dom, to her later years of line dancing with friends and her sister, Mildred always loved to have a good time. She later became known as the “golf lady” of the Yeadon Swin Club where she spent summers with her grandchildren maintaining the gardens and handing out golf clubs with her dear friend, Beth Kline.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, siblings – Adelein Bilger, Pat (Raymond) Laurie, and Sonny (Robert) Laurie and her husband (Dominic). She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Laurie, her children Pat (Judy) Pellegrino, Robert Pellegrino, and Laurie (Rich) Small and daughter-in law, Denise Flanagan. Also, her eight grandchildren (Tina, Pat, Jeannine, Dominic, Bobby, Heather, Richie, and Steven), nineteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Mildred will be greatly missed by those who loved her. She will be remembered for her infectious laughter and her tenacious spirit. She deeply cared for those around her and provided her family with a legacy of values and traditions that continue to be passed down like “Sunday Dinners.”
Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation on 9:30-11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 31, 2023 followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. at St. Louis Church, 821 W. Cobbs Creek Pkwy, Yeadon, PA 19050. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA 19050.
