Michael Mallon (“Mike”) of Newtown Square passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was 91 years old.
Born in Philadelphia in 1934 to Michael and Anne Mallon, Mike moved with his family to Newtown Square in 1941, where he lived for the rest of his life. A devoted husband and father, Mike was an avid reader, a gifted storyteller, and a quick wit who brought laughter to every gathering. He enjoyed classical music, Eagles football, history, fishing, and traveling. An enthusiastic skier, he remained active on the slopes until the age of 80.
Mike spent his career in law enforcement and retired as Chief of Police of Newtown Square in 1996. While working full time and raising six children, he returned to college and earned his BA with honors from Villanova University. After retirement, he and his wife Rita enjoyed traveling and exploring nature together, spotting wildlife and learning about history along the way. They treasured time spent with friends and, most of all, with family.
Mike will be remembered as a man of strong work ethic and remarkable intelligence, with a deep sense of self-determination. He brought wit and wisdom to every gathering, and his legacy of skill, perseverance and laughter will live on in all who knew him.
Mike is survived by his six children, Kathleen Lowery (Mark), Maureen Curran (John), Michael Mallon (Dottie), Patricia Haase (John), Teresa Emory (Bob), and Daniel Mallon (Dina); eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary McGoldrick and his cousin, John O’Reilly. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Rita Mallon.
Funeral Mass will be Friday, March 27, 2026 at 10:30am in St. Anastasia Roman Catholic Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073. Family and friends will be received in the church on Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:15am. Interment is private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Mike to the American Cancer Society, 1818 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
Forever loved, never forgotten.
