Mason Cordero Obituary

Mason Robert Cordero, was born on January 1, 2011, in Philadelphia to Amber Salera. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, whose vibrant spirit and big heart left an unforgettable mark on all who knew him. Mason unexpectedly passed away on June 23, 2025 at the tender age of 14 after a long battle with Type 1 Diabetes.

Mason was a loving, loyal, caring, and protective brother to his siblings. He leaves behind Mya, Sophia, Ace’ah, Gerald, and Alexis; step siblings, Brenna and Giavanna. Though he was preceded in death by his big brother Mitchell, his love for his siblings never wavered. As much as Mason adored being a brother, his greatest pride was being an uncle to Saint, Aspen, Aurora, and Nala. His nieces and nephews will forever cherish the memories they shared with their uncle Mason.

Mason will be deeply missed by his devoted step-father Jerry Zaccaria. Mason was loved by his faithful grandparents, Patricia and the late Frank (ACE) Salera, as well as the late Ednamae Murray, and Terri McNamara. There are many  everlasting memories that will be treasured by his aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mason recently completed 8th grade at Ridley Middle School. He was a friend to many, always willing to lend a hand and share a smile. His entrepreneurial spirit shined brightly as he sold water at the local Shop Rite and assisted customers with their groceries, embodying a worth ethic that was both admirable and inspiring. Driven by the desire to make a difference, Mason recently fulfilled one of his dreams by becoming a volunteer firefighter. This was not only a testament to his courage but also to his selfless nature, always ready to help others in their time of need. Mason’s interests were as diverse as they were passionate. He found joy in riding his bike, drawing, playing video games, fishing, and shooting hoops on the basketball court.

Those who were fortunate enough to know Mason would describe him as loving, adventurous, and creative. Mason’s departure from this world leaves a void that cannot be filled. Yet, his legacy of kindness, bravery, and love will continue to resonate.

Family and friends will be received from 9:30 to 10:45am on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 in St. Gabriel's Parish, 2917 Dickinson St., Philadelphia, PA 19146. Funeral Mass will begin in the church on Tuesday at 11:00am

As we bid farewell to Mason Robert Cordero, we celebrate a life that, though brief, was lived with an intensity and purity that many aspire to but few achieve. His spirit will forever remain a guiding light to all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and his memory will be cherished for eternity.
