Mary V. Smith, a cherished matriarch and beacon of love and creativity, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025, at the age of 92 in Wayne, Pennsylvania. Born on December 20, 1932, in Havertown, PA, to the late George and Viola Mary (Simpson) Keysey, Mary carried the spirit of her hometown throughout her life, spreading warmth and kindness wherever she went.
Mary’s life was one of devotion and joy, marked by her enduring commitment to her family and her work. She was the beloved wife of the late Elmer W. Smith, Jr., with whom she shared a lifetime of love and memories. Together, they raised a family of three sons: James W. Smith and his companion, Joan Wendell; Robert Smith and his wife, Carol; and William Smith and his wife, Diane. Her role as a mother was one she treasured deeply, and her legacy continued to flourish through her grandchildren: James W. Smith, Jr.; Kimberly Smith; Angelica Wendell; Jeffrey Smith and his wife, Joanna; Timothy Smith; Michael Smith; Steven; Marissa and her husband, Steve; Alexis and Dylan. Mary was also a proud great-grandmother to Patryk and his wife, Faith; Bridjitte and her husband, Jake; Joshuah and his fiancée, Natalie Suda; Kylie Smith; Logan Smith; Maddax Smith; Brinley Curdo, and Waylon Curdo.
Her professional life was characterized by her role as the Front End Manager at the former Pantry Pride, which later became Food Fair. Mary's hard work, leadership, and creative problem-solving left an indelible mark on her colleagues and the community she served. She was not only respected but loved by those who worked alongside her.
Mary's spirited personality shone brightly through her interests. She had a particular fondness for scratch-offs and the thrilling atmosphere of casinos, where her vibrant and adventurous spirit could be fully expressed. Those who knew her will remember the excitement and joy she brought to every game and gathering, creating cherished memories that will be held close by all who shared in her fun-loving pursuits.
Described by those who loved her as loving, creative, and spirited, Mary's influence extended beyond her immediate family. Her nieces, nephews, and the countless friends she made along her journey through life are a testament to her generous heart and soul. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel special, seen, and heard, and her absence will leave a void in the many lives she touched.
Mary was the last surviving member of her generation in the Keysey family, predeceased by all her siblings. Her passing represents the end of an era, but her spirit will continue to live on through the stories, laughter, and love she shared with so many.
Family and friends will be received from 11:30am to 12:30pm followed by a funeral service on Saturday, August 9th, 2025 in the Logan-Videon Funeral Home, 2001 Sproul Rd., Broomall, PA 19008. Burial will be in Glenwood Memorial Gardens, Broomall.
