Mary Jane Powers née Ricker slipped away from this world on May 6, 2022 surrounded by the compassionate staff of The Mansion at Rosemont.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Rosemont University, a Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master's degree in Theology as one of the first woman to graduate from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary.
MJ or MJP as she was fondly called by friends and family was a proud mother of her 6 children: Mark (Carol) who preceded her in death, Larry (Ilona), Ann (Dan), Maria (Bobbi), Stephen (Mary Anne) and Noël (Tim).
MJP was often known as Nana or Super Powers to her 7 grandchildren: Jillian, Douglas, Penelope, Joseph, Jessie, Liana and Malcolm. As well as 2 bonus grandchildren: Timmy and Mandi.
To know MJP is to know her sister: Wendy Ricker. They were thick as thieves and always each other's number one fan. The duo is an example of unconditional emotional, physical and spiritual support from beginning to end.
MJP spent her teaching career at Sacred Heart Academy. She often would speak of her time as a teacher and the everlasting friendships that were formed at the "Home on the Hill".
MJP was a lifelong avid reader with a fierce sense of humor and a deep-rooted faith that remained with her to the final days. Family and Friends are invited to celebrate MJP's life on June 22, 2022 at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 35 Old Eagle School Road, Wayne, PA 19087. Visitation will begin at 9:30 A.M. followed by 11:00 A.M. Funeral Mass. Interment Our Lady of the Assumptions Cemetery, Wayne, PA.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Mary Jane Powers Scholarship at Sacred Heart Academy 480 S. Bryn Mawr Ave. Bryn Mawr, PA 19010
