Mary Josephine Dolores (Sannino) Monichetti, age 94, of Sea Isle City, New Jersey passed away peacefully at Villa Raffaella Assisted Living in Pleasantville, NJ on November 15, 2021. She was surrounded by her family and the Hospitaler Sisters of Mercy, who cared for her.
Mary is survived by her daughter Rosemary M. Deery (Gerald), her son, Mike D. Monichetti (Jeannie) and her brother, Andrew D. Sannino. As well as seven grandchildren: Mike (Viki), Mary Beth (John), Christina (Alex), Mary Kate, Kara Mia, Michael Dewey III and Luke. She is also a “GG” to four great grandchildren: Stefano Anthony, Mary Josephine, Alexandra Josephine and Owen Francis; as well as numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Mike Dewey Monichetti, her grandson, Gerry Deery, and her siblings: Cecilia Miccolis Natalizio, Nancy Pittaluga Farina, Virginia Organo D’Aleo, James V. Sannino, Christopher J. Sannino and Jeanette C. Zizak.
Mary was a member of the Sea Isle City Public School graduating class of 1941. She later moved to Philadelphia and attended Helen Fleischer Vocational School, graduating in 1943. As a young woman, Mary worked as a seamstress in The Blum Department store on 13th and Chestnut Streets in Philadelphia and later as a bookkeeper for Reliance Insurance Company, also in Philadelphia.
In 1949, she returned to her beloved Sea Isle City to marry the love of her life, Mike. In addition to being a homemaker, Mary and Mike owned and operated Mike’s Seafood in Sea Isle City, NJ. While Mike captained the fishing trawler “Dewey” and caught the fish, Mary carefully wrapped them in newspaper and handed them over the counter with a warm smile, friendly demeanor and customer focused attention. In addition to hard work, these were the principles on which their family business was built. Upon his passing in 1989, she continued to remain active in the business, which is now operated by her son, Mike Jr.
Mary delighted in being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to attend a sacrament, birthday, sporting event or performance. Fond memories include family vacations together, holidays in the fish market and pizzelle baking season.
Throughout her life, Mary was a loyal and dedicated friend to many. She was an active member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Joseph prayer line, the Sea Isle City AARP, the Garden Club of Sea Isle City, the Italian American Auxiliary and the “Sit and be Fit” exercise group. Additionally, she enjoyed travel, work outs at the Ocean City Aquatic Center and social gatherings with good friends. She will be missed dearly by family and loved ones.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon on Monday November 22, 2021 at Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 4308 Landis Ave. (corner of 44th St. & Landis Ave), Sea Isle City, NJ 08243 where friends may call from 9:00-11:30 A.M. Interment will be at Calvary Baptist Cemetery, 2373 Shore Road, Ocean View, NJ.
