Mary J. Hegarty, a beacon of joy and love, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, at the age of 93, in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Born on Christmas Day in 1931, in Philadelphia, PA, Mary's life was a testament to the spirit of giving and warmth that defined her birthday. As the beloved wife of John J. Hegarty, she shared a life full of laughter and cherished moments.
Mary's legacy is carried on through her loving family. She was the heart and soul of her children: Maureen (Frank) Makovetz, Coleen (Jerry) McGuigan, James (MaryKay), Curt (Nadine), David Hegarty, and the late John J. Hegarty, Jr. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives of her 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored more than words can express. Mary's love also extended to her several brothers and sisters, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom felt the warmth of her kindness and generosity.
Known for her spirited personality, Mary never missed an opportunity to bring people together. Her friendly demeanor was infectious, and she was beloved by all who knew her. A loving matriarch, Mary's greatest joy was spending time with her family, whether it was during summer getaways to Cape May, NJ, or gathering around the table for a family meal, her presence was a comfort and a delight.
Mary's zest for life was evident in her hobbies. She had a penchant for the excitement of casinos, the thrill of lottery tickets, and the serenity of cruises, each adventure reflecting her adventurous and hopeful spirit. These interests were more than pastimes; they were avenues through which she connected with friends, family, and the world around her.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 30, 2025 at Saints Peter & Paul Church, 1025 Boot Road, West Chester, PA 19380. Friends and family are invited to visit from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the church prior to the service. Interment at a later date.
