Martin Fallon Obituary

Martin J. Fallon (Marty) of Exton, PA, age 95, died peacefully on August 15, 2022.

Born in Rooskey, County Leitrim, Ireland, Marty spent his childhood working in the family businesses, including tending to the bar and grocery store, moving cattle to different farms and fairs, and serving as undertaker with the family hearse.

Industrious from an early age, nothing would keep Marty from Gaelic football. In fact, he played for two counties, Roscommon and Leitrim. In 1945, he played in the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship for Leitrim, only to be defeated by Dublin. Nevertheless, it was a pinnacle achievement for the rural west of Ireland.

Marty met Helen after her family moved from Philadelphia to Rooskey, Ireland before WWII. After the war, he followed her back to the US, got married and started a family in New York City, where he worked in grocery and food service businesses. His love for Ireland was so strong that he bought one of his father’s farms and moved back to Ireland for 14 years with his family.

After his children attended high school and moved back to the US, he sold his farm and moved to the Philadelphia area to be closer to the family. Demonstrating his versatility, he worked as a purchasing manager at All-Control Systems for years and attempted to retire twice but being the people person he was, he decided to retire later.

His love for golf was only eclipsed by the camaraderie and side-betting with his golf buddies.

Marty was a pragmatic and kind person, loved by all who knew him. What is most memorable though were his shenanigans. His repertoire of stories and unique experiences would keep any crowd in stitches.

He was the loving father of Martin J. Fallon (Kathy), Kevin Fallon (Diana), Paul Fallon, and Regina Sabin (Bob).

Loving grandfather of Laura Fallon, Tara Fallon, Martin Fallon, Paul Fallon, Claire Fallon, Caroline Fallon, Patricia Sabin, and Michael Sabin.

Loving great grandfather of Ena Fallon and Richard Fallon.

Sadly missed by his brother Leo Fallon, sister Patty Hanley, sisters-in-law Nancy Martin and Geraldine Fallon, and brother-in-law James Reilly.

Sadly missed by all his nieces, nephews, and friends.

Predeceased by his loving wife Helen, brothers JJ, Toney, and Aidan, and sisters Maeve and Georgina.

Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing in honor of Marty on Thursday, August 18th at 9:30 – 10:45 A.M., followed by Mass at 11:00 A.M., at Ss. Philip & James Church, 723 East Lincoln Hwy. (corner of Rt. 30 & Ship Rd.), Exton, PA 19341.  Interment Saint Agnes Cemetery.
