Marlene A. Anthony (nee Petta) 83 returned to her Maker October 3, 2022, at her home in Inveraray, Villanova, PA surrounded by her loving family: her devoted husband of 64 years, Richard, and five children - MaryAnn Kelly (Vincent), Richard, Jr. (Robyn), Mark (Lynda), Paul (Dion) and Elizabeth Schostak (Owen). She was the proud Granny to 15 grandchildren and doting GG to 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Pasquale, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Julia Petta.
Following graduation from West Catholic School for Girls in 1956, she attended Villanova University to earn her certificate to teach elementary school which she did at St Dorothy’s Catholic School in Drexel Hill and St Francis of Assisi in Norristown until her marriage in 1958. She was devoted to her family and her faith and was active in church and school activities while raising her children in Drexel Hill, including the Boy Scouts, the school library and Aronimink Swim Club where she served as a board member. For 17 years she served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. John Neumann Church bringing communion and comfort to the sick and disabled. She was a daily communicant until her illness worsened.
For the past 25 years, she had been a partner in her husband’s management consulting firm. The couple loved to travel and had wonderful memories of trips by air and sea to destinations in Italy, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Canada and the United Kingdom. When not traveling, they spent time at their homes in Skytop Lodge Resort and Buck Hill Falls, Pennsylvania, and enjoyed a 40-year membership at Overbrook Golf Club where she played tennis with friends, followed quickly by lunch.
Marlene was a fun loving, gregarious, compassionate soul who befriended everyone with her friendly smile, warmth and authenticity. She loved meeting new people to learn about their lives, their families and their aspirations. She was known for her long goodbyes which often prompted her husband to exhort her unsuccessfully with, “Say goodnight, Marlene” or “The bus is leaving, Marlene.” She simply loved people.
