Margaret Karen Singley, cherished sister, wife, mother, mom-mom, aunt, and dear friend, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, at the age of 72 in Media, Pennsylvania.
Born on September 18, 1952, in Lawton, Oklahoma, Karen was the beloved daughter of the late Walter Jamie Riggs Jr. and the late Opal Beatrice Mayo. She grew up in Lawton and graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1970. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Karen began her lifelong career with the telephone company—first as an operator, then supervisor, later as a teaching instructor with Southwestern Bell, and ultimately serving as a Design Engineer for AT&T, Lucent, and AVAYA.
Karen’s path with AT&T led her to the East Coast, where she met her husband, Roger Singley. Together they built a life rich in love and treasured moments. Their shared passion for water inspired their retirement home along the river in Elkton, Maryland—a place that became a sanctuary for family and friends. Karen had a heart that never hesitated to open her home to anyone she considered family, sharing her warmth, hospitality, and love unconditionally.
A woman of many interests, Karen found joy in traveling with Roger and her grandchildren, baking with loved ones, and above all—sewing. Taught by her mother at a young age, she poured that passion into creating clothing and quilts for her children and grandchildren. She founded her own quilting business, Canal Quilting, and found purpose in sewing for others, crafting quilts and pillowcases for sick children in hospitals and for disabled veterans with the utmost love and care.
Karen’s legacy is grounded in her devotion to her family, especially her children and grandchildren, whose lives were shaped by her unwavering support and boundless affection. She is survived by her loving husband, Roger; her siblings, Steve (Anne) Riggs and Laura (Herman) Boone; her children, Kari (Jay) Vernon, James (Laura) Crowder, and Scott Singley; two stepsons; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Logan-Videon Funeral Home, 2001 Sproul Rd, Broomall, PA 19085. Calling hours are from 10:00–11:00 AM, followed by the service from 11:00 AM–12:00 PM.
