Margaret Brown Obituary

Margaret (Peggy) L. Brown, 86, of West Chester, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, January 21, 2021.  She was the wife of Donald J. Brown, Sr. and the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna (Scheel) Eckman.  She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1934 and grew up in Springfield, Delaware County.  In the early 1950’s, Peggy was a singer on the Paul Whiteman TV Teen Club show in Philadelphia where Dick Clark was the show’s announcer.  She also recorded several records while singing on the WPEN radio show and spent many years of her adult life singing in the church choir.  She met her husband Don, a saxophonist with the show’s dance band and they had their first date on Peggy’s sixteenth birthday.  She and Don retired when they were 65 and traveled to 49 of the 50 states in their motorhome. Their stories of their travels are priceless.  Peggy’s long career involved many various positions, but her favorite and final job was running a home daycare after the birth of her first grandchild. She enjoyed attending church, doing crossword puzzles, all genres of music, camping with her family and friends, NASCAR, and doing jigsaw puzzles and attending social events with her friends at Harrison Hill Apartments in West Chester. She particularly enjoyed being Nana to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other friends’ children she cared for daily for many years.  In addition to her husband of 65 years, Peggy is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Jean and Clarence Lutton, her children Jerry and Jane Brown, Vicki and the late John Earlen, Tom and Peg Brown and Mark Brown. She is also survived by her grandchildren Shawn and Sara Bausinger, Erin Bausinger, Jeremy Brown, Alicia and Dan Greway and Lindsay Brown and her great-grandchildren Madison Rossetti and Mason and Silas Bausinger. She will be greatly missed and remembered with love and laughter by her family.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Margaret (Peggy) Brown to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the American Heart Association and Penn Medicine Hospice.
