M. Eileen (O'Brien) Guerin of Malvern, PA, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. Beloved wife of 56 years to the late Thomas David Guerin.
Eileen was born in Franklin, PA. When she was a child, she moved with her parents, Mary Cecelia (Madden) and Thomas O'Brien, to Drexel Hill, PA. Eileen attended Saint Leonard's Academy and graduated with a BFA from Rosemont College. After college, Eileen painted throughout her life. She evoked emotion in her paintings and painted with an exquisite sense of color and style.
In 1959, Eileen married Thomas David Guerin in Philadelphia. They moved to New York, Illinois, and Pennsylvania, raising their eight children. Eileen loved to entertain, was passionate about her family, the Philadelphia Eagles, politics, opera, the Sunday New York Times Crossword, and was the supreme Scrabble champion of the family. She was a gracious host, and there was always room for one more at her dinner table.
After their children were grown, Tom and Eileen enjoyed traveling the world. They especially loved Europe and Mexico. She was never happier than when she was planning their next adventure. Eileen was a faithful member of Daylesford Abby. Her faith in God and devotion to Mary and Saint Theresa of the Little Flower were unshakable. Whenever anyone left her house, they were sent off with a hearty "Vaya Con Dios."
In 1996, more than 25 years ago, when a grandchild asked her about her wish for the future, she wrote: "More understanding of others' point of view and realization that each of us is truly unique and worthwhile no matter where we live, what we look like and what we choose to do."
Eileen is survived by her eight children, Mary Eileen (Thomas) Kloster, Madeleine (David) Butler, Susan (Paul) Roach, Alison Guerin, Thomas Maxim (Peggy) Guerin, David (Nicole) Guerin, Ann (Andrew) Durkin, Peter (Denise) Guerin. She was busy with eighteen grandchildren: Monica (Rick) Aurigemma, Eileen (Emmanuel) Simeakis, the late Andrew Butler, Blaise (Ellie) Butler, Bridget (Greg) Robbins, Colleen, and Marie-Louise Kloster, Michael and Katherine Roach, Allison and Grace Guerin, Henry, Lily, and Collette Guerin, and Isaac, Reilly, Owen, and Mary Durkin. She was also blessed with one great-grandchild, Caroline Aurigemma.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 10, 2021 at Daylesford Abbey, 220 S. Valley Road, Paoli, PA 19301 where friends may call 10:00-10:45 A.M. at the Abbey. Interment at a later date.
