Louis Saraullo Obituary

Louis James Saraullo, known affectionately by friends and family as Lou, until his peaceful passing on January 10, 2025, in Bryn Mawr, at the age of 81. Born on July 29, 1943, in the heart of South Philadelphia, Lou was the cherished son of the late Camillo J. and Anna L. (Rapiadsi) Saraullo.

Lou's life was a testament to the values of love, handiness, and friendliness. He shared 60 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved spouse, Rose Marie (DeMayo) Saraullo. Together, they built a family and a legacy of love that will be carried on by their children, Louis J. Saraullo, Jr., and Stephanie M. Saraullo, along with her companion, Mark Melito.

A true Philadelphian through and through, Lou's early education took place at Most Blessed Sacrament grade school, followed by West Catholic High School, where he laid the foundations for a life of service and dedication to his community. Lou's professional journey began at Philadelphia Electric, where his skilled hands and keen eye saw him become a Certified Master Welder. His commitment to his craft was evident not only in his work but also in his passion for teaching others, ensuring that the art of welding was passed on to future generations.

Lou's work ethic and desire to serve led him into the realm of politics, where he left an indelible mark as the Mayor of Darby from 1981 to 1989. His tenure was marked by genuine care for his constituents, and he took pride in having officiated the weddings of over 200 couples. In addition to his mayoral duties, Lou was a respected Pennsylvania Constable, a role in which he served his community with integrity and honor.
Beyond his professional life, Lou was a man of many interests. He was a proud member of the Italian Little Club in Ardmore, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and shared interests with fellow members. As an avid gun enthusiast, Lou's knowledge and skill were respected by all who knew him. He was also known for his punctuality, always arriving early to any event or appointment, a trait that spoke to his respectful and considerate nature.

Those who knew Lou would describe him as a loving husband, a supportive father, and a friendly face in the neighborhood. He had the unique ability to make anyone feel welcome and valued, with a smile that could light up a room and a helping hand that was always extended. His handy skills made him the go-to person for fixing anything, and his warmth made him a beloved figure in his community.

As we say goodbye to Lou, we celebrate a life that was lived with purpose, love, and a deep commitment to others. His spirit, teachings, and the countless memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Louis James Saraullo's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with dedication, joy, and an unwavering sense of community. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten, as his legacy of love and service remains a guiding light for all who were touched by his extraordinary life. He always said his favorite medicine was his glass of wine.
