Lawrence “Larry” Brothers, Jr. Obituary

Lawrence “Larry” Brothers, Jr., of Havertown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2022, surrounded by his family and close friends.

Born and raised in West Philadelphia, Larry attended the Parkway School and graduated in the Alpha class of 1977.  He was a dedicated Boy Scout and received his Eagle Scout badge in 1977, which is scouting’s highest honor achieved by less than four percent of all Scouts.

Larry graduated from St. Joseph’s University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education, and later obtained a Masters in Education, with honors from Cabrini University in 2013. During college, Larry met the love of his life, Lesline (Née Brown). Lesline and Larry married in 1992, and a few short years later became the proud parents of Lawrence “LJ” Brothers, III.

Larry was a true Philly native and avid sports fan.  He spent his free time following all Philadelphia sports teams; but most of all he loved the Eagles with a fierce passion (Go Birds!).

Larry shared his passion for sports with his son LJ, whom he coached in basketball with the Havertown Hoops through 9th grade. Larry was proud to tell anyone who listened that his Havertown Hoops team made 5 championship appearances and won 3 championships, one with an all-time record breaking score.

Larry was also a dedicated teacher and Technology Lead for the Philadelphia School District where he worked for over 20 years. He was fondly known as “Mr. Brothers” to his many devoted students at Eliza B. Kirkbride School in Philadelphia. He generously shared with them his love of learning and joy for life - inspiring them to be their best at all times and teaching them that nothing is impossible.

Larry was also a man of God. He was an active member of Manoa Community Church in Havertown, Pennsylvania for over 13 years where he faithfully served on the Audio-Video team, Deacon Board and most recently as an Elder.

Larry had a healthy appetite and loved to cook. He could often be found behind his grill or in the kitchen preparing meals before a big game.  Everyone looked forward to his Thanksgiving turkey and famous Mac ‘n Cheese.  When not cooking, Larry loved to spend time with his two Pugs, Leo and Louie.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife and ultimate best friend of over 30 years, Lesline (née Brown), his loving son LJ and his mother Bernice Brothers. He is also survived by his many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law as well as his many loving nieces and nephews who will dearly miss their fun loving and caring, Uncle Larry.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Ceremony on August 20, 2022 at Manoa Community Church in Havertown, Pennsylvania. Visitation: 9:00 am - 10:45 am. Service: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm. Interment: West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Eliza B. Kirkbride School or the Brain Injury Association of America.

Larry's family is honored to have had his life memorialized by the Philadelphia Inquirer
