Kenneth D. Rhoads, age 95, of Chester County, Pennsylvania, passed away on May 4, 2026, at Chester County Hospital after a battle with pneumonia.
Born on May 4, 1931, in Pine Forge, PA, he was the son of a loving family and grew up on a farm with the values of hard work and generosity that would guide him throughout his life.
Kenneth earned his Bachelor of Science degree from West Chester University, where he also excelled as a college baseball player and established himself as an outstanding left-handed pitcher. His athletic ability was matched by his determination and discipline, qualities that served him well in every part of his life.
He spent many years working in sales and marketing, first with Richardson Polymers and later with Nova Chemicals, where he served as a Senior Account Manager. Kenneth was respected by colleagues for his professionalism, reliability, and easy manner. He built lasting relationships through his work and was known for treating others with kindness and sincerity.
Kenneth was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Phyllis Rhoads. They had been married for 69 years. Their life together was filled with love, companionship, and shared adventures. Together they raised four children, Steve Rhoads, Brad Rhoads (Sandy), Doug Rhoads (Jackie) and Beth Gibbons (Michael) all of whom survive him and carry forward the example of his character. He also had seven grandchildren whom he loved dearly (Sarah, Alex, Alison, Andrew, Robert, Margo and Keira).
Family was at the center of Kenneth’s life, and he took great pride in being a husband, father, and friend. He was a man who led by example, offering encouragement, support, and a steady hand whenever it was needed. Those closest to him will remember his kindness, his friendliness, and his selfless nature, which made him a source of comfort and strength to many.
Kenneth had many hobbies and interests, but perhaps none brought him more joy than gardening. He loved to work outdoors, planting flowers and growing vegetables, and he found peace and satisfaction in caring for the earth. He also enjoyed golf and was a longtime member of Edgemont Country Club, where he appreciated both the game and the fellowship it provided.
In later years, he remained an enthusiastic sports fan. He loved baseball throughout his life and was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan.
When Kenneth and Phyllis were younger, they enjoyed traveling together and took many road trips throughout the Northeast United States. They especially loved spending time in Florida, where they would escape each winter for two to three weeks. Sarasota became a favorite destination, where they enjoyed the beach, golf, and the simple pleasure of time well spent together. They also loved dining out, and Kenneth always enjoyed a cocktail with dinner, especially a Manhattan served up with rocks on the side.
Kenneth will be remembered for the many ways he made life better for others. He was generous in spirit and supported many charities over the years. More than anything, he will be remembered as a kind, friendly, and selfless man whose presence brought warmth to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, faith, and quiet generosity will remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
