Kathryn L. “Kay” Sammartino Obituary

Kathryn L. “Kay” Sammartino, 101, formerly of Yeadon, PA, and Havertown, PA, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

She was the wife of the late Dr. Frank J. Sammartino and daughter of the late Charles and Grace G. (nee Green) Schatzle. She was also predeceased by her sister, Betty Bolton.

Kathryn was born in Trachsville, PA and lived in Palmerton, PA before attending Temple University Nursing School in Philadelphia, as part of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II. She graduated in 1946 and later advanced to become the head nurse of the Neonatal ICU at Temple Hospital. During this time, she met her husband, Frank. They married in 1951, raised their four children together in Yeadon, PA and enjoyed many happy summers in Ocean City, N.J.

Kay will be remembered for her love of reading, crocheting, crossword puzzles, gardening, and traveling the world. She loved to cook and was happiest when her entire family was together, enjoying a meal and telling stories. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren immensely and never tired of holding a new baby!

Survivors: Her children, Dr. Frank J. Sammartino, Jr. (Patricia), Dr. John P. Sammartino (the late Jacquelyn), Dr. Nancy Sammartino Brady (Dr. John), and Joan Sammartino Turner, Esq., grandchildren, Jason, Colleen, Benjamin, Grace, Jennifer (Steven), John (Devin), and Jessica, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Monday, June 15, 2026, from 10:30-11:30 am, at Logan-Videon Funeral Home, 2001 Sproul Road, Broomall, PA 19008.

Funeral Service: Monday, June 15, 2026, at 11:30 am, at Logan-Videon Funeral Home.

Burial: SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.

In lieu of flowers, Kay’s family suggests a donation be made to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Newborn/Infant Intensive Care Unit.
