Kathleen “Kathy” Thompson, of Collingdale, PA, passed away at the age of 81 on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, surrounded by family and love.
Kathy was born in Philadelphia but grew up in Upper Darby, PA. She came from a large family and was the last surviving of nine children born to the late William T. and Jean (McKillip) Crowding. Kathy was extremely proud of her Crowding roots and loved to tell stories about growing up in a family that was bigger than the “Brady Bunch”. Her stories were full of chaos, friendship, love, and lots of hand-me-downs. Her most treasured memories included her sister and best friend, the late Linda (Crowding) Keksz.
Kathy met her husband of 48 years, the late Lawrence “Larry” Thompson III, while working at O’Hagan’s Bar in Collingdale, where she won his heart with a cheeseburger. After marrying, they settled in Collingdale, and Kathy dedicated her life to raising her four daughters and supporting family, friends, and the community. Kathy was known for her big heart, generous nature, hearty home-cooked meals, and her home-brewed iced tea. Her caring nature was also evident in her love for animals and her efforts in frequently rescuing injured wildlife, which seemed to find a way to her doorstep.
Kathy was also a talented but modest artist. She loved drawing, painting, sewing, mosaics, and trying various other crafts over the years. She enjoyed taking classes at the Schoolhouse Senior Center in Folsom and didn’t think it was possible to own too many craft supplies!
Although Kathy had many interests, her world was always centered around her family. She was a proud Mom to four daughters and “Grammy” to eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She helped raise several of her grandchildren and was happiest when spending time with family. She will be dearly missed for her warm hugs, unwavering support, the way she sang to her family every day, and her endless ability to make people laugh, even at her own expense.
In addition to her parents, siblings, and husband, Kathy was preceded in death by her daughters Gigette and Antoinette Rodia and granddaughter Tiffany Dodson. She is survived by her daughters Kim Thompson and Lorraine (Bill) Stroup, her grandchildren Brianna (Dan) Harold, Sabrina and Tiara Rodia, Tabitha Dodson, Liam Thompson, Riley and Christian Stroup and great-grandchildren Kole, Jackson and Madison Harold.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 10:00-12:00PM at Logan-Videon Funeral Home, 2001 Sproul Rd, Broomall, PA 19008.
