Katherine (Kate) Ann Macario (nee Burrichter) passed away September 6, 2019. She was born March 30,1925 in Philadelphia, PA to Harry and Katherine Burrichter nee Myers .
Kate is survived by her children Michael (Canivet) of West Bradford, PA, Katherine (Joseph) Pault of Kenai, AK, Mary Louise (Richard) Morgenstern of Marlton, NJ, Mark (Yvonne) of Weirsdale, FL, Carla (James) Mathers of Solomons, MD and Christopher (Eileen) of West Chester, PA. She is also survived by her brother Paul, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Matthew, her parents and her siblings Rosemary, Helen, Harry and Charles.
Kate was a devoted parishioner of Saints Philip and James Catholic Church for over fifty years. She cleaned the church, baked cakes for bingo, and volunteered in the school cafeteria and library.
She hosted a family reunion every Fourth of July for many years. Her family continues this event and she last attended in July 2019. Every March she would organize a luncheon to celebrate birthdays with her family friends and neighbors.
Kate earned her pilots license in 1946. She joined the 99’s, International Organization of Women Pilots in 1955 where she served many functions including the Eastern PA Chapter Chairman, Membership Chairman and Newsletter Editor. She organized the annual “Pennies a Pound” fundraiser where the general public was invited to enjoy airplane rides with women pilots. Kate was frequently seen at aviation events in her Cessna 195 where she would sit in the shade under the wing and visit with people as they passed by. She was also a member of the Airplane Owners and Pilots Association, Experimental Aircraft Association and The Silver Wings Fraternity.
Kate will always be remembered for her smile and her hearty laugh. She loved to dance. She had a very positive outlook on life with a fierce determination to do whatever she wanted. There wasn’t a more generous person; she would always extend a helping hand. She lived independently until she was 92 years old. She lived the last two years of her life at Sunrise of Paoli. Her life can be summed up by Faith, Family, Friends and Flying.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11am Wednesday, September 18 at Saints Philip and James Church, Exton PA 19341. Interment Private. The family will receive friends 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday, September 17 at Logan Funeral Home, 698 East Lincoln Highway, Exton, PA 19341. Friends may also pay their respects before Mass at the Church from 10-10:45.
