Katherine Mary Brennan-Kavanagh of Lansdowne, PA, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, at the age of 70. Kathy was born on December 8, 1954, to the late John and Mary Brennan, and she lived a life marked by service, kindness, and an unwavering spirit of giving.
A loving wife for 46 years, Kathy’s marriage to Peter Kavanagh was a testament to enduring partnership and mutual support.
She cherished her role as a daughter, sister, and aunt, bringing joy and love to her family. Loving sister of Sheila (Paul) Mullin, Patricia (Robert) Schweikart, Diane (Michael) Capuzzi, and the late Maureen Latanishen –loving sister-in-law to Andy Latanishen. Kathy’s legacy of love continues through her adored nieces, nephews, and her cherished Samoyeds, who were like children to her.
Kathy’s educational journey began at Archbishop Prendergast, where she graduated in the Class of 1972. Her formative years there sparked a lifelong commitment to helping others that would become the cornerstone of her career. A trailblazer in her professional life, Kathy was the first female officer firefighter at the Yeadon Fire Company and later became the first female officer at the Delaware County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) Paramedic Unit. Her colleagues remember her as a pioneer who paved the way for women in her field, inspiring many with her courage and dedication.
Beyond her professional achievements, Kathy’s interests painted the picture of a woman who embraced life fully. An avid hockey fan, she was a familiar face at both Philadelphia Phantoms and Flyers games, proudly holding season tickets and cheering on her favorite teams. Her love for the Florida Keys, traveling to Ireland to visit family, and her overall zest for life were infectious, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Kathy’s character was the epitome of kindness, thoughtfulness, and selflessness. She approached every aspect of her life with a warm heart and an open mind, always thinking of others before herself. Her actions spoke volumes, and her gentle manner touched the lives of countless individuals both within her community and beyond.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation 9:30-10:45 A.M. Thursday, June 4, 2025 at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073 followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. Interment at a later date.
