Joyce Arleen (Kovatch) Peirce, 81, of Wallingford, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026. Born on February 1, 1945, in Philadelphia, she lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her work, and the many friendships she formed along the way.
Joyce was the daughter of Joseph Kovatch and Margaret (Young) Wade. She was a foster child, raised by Rev. Warren Bowman and his wife, Elena. Joyce was the loving wife of Donald Oluf Peirce and shared with him a life built on commitment, companionship, and enduring care. She was also the cherished sister of Virginia Falk, wife of the late Frank Falk, and was part of a family that remained an important source of love and connection throughout her life.
She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, James G. Peirce, Jr. (the twin of Donald O. Peirce) and his wife, Joy A. Peirce. Her sister-in-law, Marcia Peirce Smith, deceased and her husband, Samuel Smith. Joyce is also remembered by her brother-in-law, David Peirce and his wife, Emma, and by many nieces and nephews who brought her great joy over the years. Her family includes James Falk and his wife, Jean and Kimberly Carr and her husband, Thomas; Diana Zimmerman; Daniel and Rebecca Peirce; Christina Cavanaugh. She is also predeceased by a half brother and sisters, John Kovatch, Rosemarie Kovatch, and Joanne Grabowsky and her late husband Jack Grabowsky. She treasured these family bonds and held each of them close in her heart.
Joyce graduated from Havertown High School in 1963 and went on to build a long and respected career in life insurance. She worked for Penn Mutual Life for more than 25 years, where she was known for her dedication and reliability. She later worked with Pension Actuaries and concluded her professional life at North American Benefits Company, where she served as an Actuarial Technician before retiring. Her years in the workforce reflected her steady nature, strong work ethic, and quiet professionalism. She was the kind of person others could depend upon, and she carried that same sense of responsibility into every part of her life.
Outside of work, Joyce enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life meaningful. She especially loved spending time in Ocean City, New Jersey, a place that held special significance for her and provided many happy memories. She was particularly enamored with two cruises, one of which was in Alaska. She was known by those who loved her as loving, thoughtful, and friendly, qualities that defined her character and the way she interacted with others. Her warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Joyce will be remembered for the love she gave so freely, the care she showed to her family and friends, and the steady presence she offered throughout her life. She lived with grace, humility, and a genuine concern for others. Her memory will remain a blessing to those who knew and loved her, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends for years to come.
