Joseph Anthony Sheridan, Sr. "Buddy" passed away peacefully on April 24th, 2026, at the age of eighty-seven. Loving patriarch of a blended family, beloved husband of Susan Stetsen Sheridan, he is also survived by sister Patricia (Sheridan) Clark of Woodlyn, daughter Kellyanne Kyle of Glenolden, son Michael (Kim) of Glenolden, stepdaughters Renee Donovan (John) of Exeter, PA and Robyn Kaiser of North Las Vegas, NV. He is also survived by grandchildren Michael, Stephanie, Kevin, Chris, Erin (Aaron) and Neal (Heather), Maeghan, and Mason as well as great grandchildren Kaden, Mackenzie, Kameron, and many nieces and nephews who know him as ‘Uncle Bud’
Joe was born May 19th, 1938, to the late Thomas Sheridan and the late Irene Marie (Averill) Sheridan and grew up in the Devils Pocket of Grays Ferry, Philadelphia, PA. He was predeceased by son Joseph Sheridan, Jr, former wife Charlotte Sheridan, sisters Irene, Margaret, Kathryn and brothers Ronald and Thomas.
Joe loved to share colorful stories of growing up in the Pocket as 1 of 7 children in a small row house on Webster St. He attended St. Anthony's Parish School, went on to do his painting apprenticeship with Adolf Frye and Sons Painting Contractors followed by a 28 year career with Philadelphia Electric Co. in the construction division. Joe retired in 1990 at the age of fifty-two and during his retirement years, he returned to his previous trade of painting and continued to make many homeowners very happy. Joe married his first wife Charlotte in 1960 and moved to Leedom Estates in Delaware County, where they had three children. In 1970 Joe became a Friend of Bill W and remained so for 56 years until his passing, making many friends along the way and helping others wherever he could. Joe met his loving wife Susan (Sue) and they married in 1984. After living in Avondale, Chester County, for a number of years, they moved to Willistown where they made their home until 2023. They then moved to Riddle Village in Media, where he and Sue have made many great friends. They shared 42 years together as the center of our blended family and Sue was by his side until the end. Joe loved to spend time with family in the Cape May area where, for a number of years, he and Sue shared their summer home which was built in Town Bank. He really enjoyed his boat, The Kelly Sue, whether it was a ride with the kids, or fishing for tide runners off the Villas or flounder at the Cape May Rips. Joe had a deep sense of humor, always with a good joke. He loved to sing and really enjoyed finding classic oldies on Youtube. He especially loved his cat BC (Baby Cakes) and ice cream as long as it was chocolate. He had an interest in genealogy and loved to tell stories about the family back in the day. Having a “green thumb” he especially enjoyed his plants which he nurtured both inside and outside. Joe was a loving family man. He was always there for those he loved. He will be remembered with love and deeply missed by many.
Relatives and friends are invited to Joe’s Celebration of Life on June 12th, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Riddle Village (in the large Town Hall meeting room), 1048 W. Baltimore Pike, Media, PA 19063 with refreshments to follow. Riddle Village is directly across from Granite Run Mall and behind Riddle Hospital.
