Joseph Hurchik Obituary

Joseph Hurchik, 76, of Exton, PA, the light of our lives, passed away on October 7, after a valiant battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Joseph was born on April 30, 1944 to Joseph and Mary Hurchik in Southwest Philadelphia. After graduating from West Catholic Boys High School in 1962, he went on to study foreign language at Temple University.

Upon graduation, he landed his first job with the Coca-Cola bottling company, kicking off a 42-year career in sales within the beverage industry.

In 1963, a special woman by the name of Marie Matteo invited Joe to her senior prom. He eagerly accepted, sparks flew and that set the trajectory for a lifetime of love. They were married in 1968 and remained completely devoted to each other for 52 years. In that time, they built a beautiful family two daughters, Christine, married to Michael Dedda, Lisa, married to Blaise Coleman and a son Joseph M. Hurchik. That love blossomed into six grandchildren, Julia, Michael, Amelia, Jack, Jake & Jade. He was adored by them all. He had a devoted sister, Joan DiNapoli, and was beloved by many relatives, friends and so many more. To know him was to love him. That’s just the type of guy Joe was!

After retiring in 2008, Joe spent his time doing what he always did, just more of it.  He was Mr. Fix-it! The hardest worker in town! Gardening, painting, cleaning, washing cars. You name it he did. And not just for his household, but any family, friend or neighbor. Always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a great conversationalist and enjoyed people. He always had great insights and jokes to share. Joe had a magical way of making you feel at ease and heard. Yes, a great listener for sure! He loved Philly sports and hated them too. They always left him with some colorful comments.

Above all he was devoted to his family. Their happiness was his number one priority. Even in great sickness, it was his calm and levity that made them feel better. His strength was remarkable never allowing disease to conquer his spirit. He always stood tall and forged on.

Joseph Hurchik was an extraordinary man! Blessed were all who knew him!

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, October14th at St. Philip & James Church at 10:30 a.m., 721 Lincoln Highway, Exton, PA, where relatives and friends may call 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the church. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private gathering for immediate family only will follow the services.
