Born on June 27, 1933, in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late John L., Sr. and Catherine (nee Hesse) Noll. John was a graduate of Marple Newtown High School where he was a star athlete on the football team and turned down two college football scholarships to serve his country during the Korean War. John enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp on June 28, 1951 and was honorably discharged as a Sargent, 1st Class on June 27, 1954. Upon his discharge from the military in 1954, John’s expertise with electronics landed him a job with Bell Telephone (Bell of PA) as a technician climbing utility poles. He retired at age 52 as a regional manager with AT&T in 1985. Subsequently, he started his own business installing telephone and computer systems in southeast Pennsylvania and every Wawa store located in New Jersey at the time. John liked to work with his hands after his retirement and enjoyed restoring his 1820’s farmhouse and horse farm in Kirkwood, PA, finishing off a new vacation house in Hall Quarry, ME and building several kitchen cabinet sets in between.
