John "Jack" Kelleher Obituary

John P. Kelleher, “Jack”, age 83, of Glen Mills, PA, (formerly Hockessin, DE) passed away peacefully on Monday, January 3, 2022.

He was born in Wilmington, DE, son of the late John and Ann (Szalkowski) Kelleher.  A long-time member of St. Elizabeth parish, Jack graduated from Salesianum High School, earned a B.S. Aeronautical Engineering from St. Louis University and a M.S. Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University.  During his career he worked for Thiokol, Atlantic Aviation and retired from Boeing in 2001.

Jack married the ‘girl down the street,’ Susan Hussey in June 1961, raising 3 children during their 60 years of marriage.  A dedicated family man, Jack served as cub scout leader, baseball coach, and favorite carpool driver for his family.  He enjoyed working around the house with great success as landscaper, house painter, dishwasher and house cleaner. The family always enjoyed poking fun at Jack’s attempts to tinker around the house.

Known lovingly as Dad, Papa, Pop-Pop and Uncle Jack, he was always on the sidelines cheering his kids, nieces, nephews and grandkids at sporting events.  He loved Philadelphia sports teams, particularly his Phillies.  He enjoyed summer vacations at the shore, trips to Disney and traveling abroad to Ireland and Italy.  Most of all, he adored his granddaughters and enjoyed simple family gatherings.

In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Kelleher Longobardi,  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Susan and their children Jack Jr. (Robin), Mark (Kim), Lynn, granddaughters Jordan Kelleher and Sarah Bunting.  Loving brother-in-law of Michael (Donna) Hussey, Joseph (Maureen) Hussey, Kathleen Hussey and the late Edward Hussey and Sr. Mary Ellen Hussey, OSB. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Services and burial will be private due to the COVID pandemic.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jack’s memory can be made to your favorite charity or Faithful Friends, 12 Germay Drive, Wilmington, DE 19804.
