John C. A. Rigney Jr

John C.A. Rigney Jr., 98 of Drexel Hill, PA formerly of Yeadon, PA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family.

The son of the late John C. A. Rigney and Marie (nee Covvey) Rigney, John graduated from West Catholic High School in 1945 followed by a two year stint in the United States Army stationed in Japan. Upon returning from the service he attended the University of Pennsylvania where he met his future wife Marie L. Fitzpatrick. John graduated from Penn in 1951 and he and Marie wed in 1954.

John and Marie bought a home in Southwest Philadelphia and in 1962 moved the family to Drexel Hill where he's lived ever since. John, a devout Catholic and a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, lived his faith daily. He served his church in a variety of ways through the years from assisting in the Parish Block Collection, lecturing at mass, counting the Sunday collection, and even calling numbers at Friday Night Bingo. He continued to attend daily mass up until his 98th birthday when his health began to deteriorate. 

A lifelong bowler, John remained active in leagues until age 97. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the Philadelphia A's, Phillies, Eagles, Warriors, Sixers, Flyers and his beloved Penn Quakers. If there were sports on TV,. he enjoyed watching. He even watched the Phillies 3 days before he passed.

John is predeceased by his wife Marie, daughter Anne and siblings Rose Marie Kling, William, Nancy, Robert and Richard. He is survived by daughter Jean, sons Chris (Maria) and Frank (Sue) and granddaughter, Nora. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Saturday, June 27, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 3500 School Lane, Drexel Hill, PA 19026. Mass will be celebrated in church on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. John will be laid to rest at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of John C. A. Rigney, Jr to his home church, St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, 3500 School Lane, Drexel Hill, PA 19026.
