John Maguire Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John J. “Mick” Maguire, who left us on December 28, 2024, at the age of 89. Born in the Schuylkill section of Philadelphia on Naudain Street, Mick took great pride in his roots, often sharing fond memories of his upbringing in the neighborhood that shaped him.

Mick was married to the love of his life, Connie, for 55 wonderful years. Together, they made a home in the Grays Ferry section of the city before moving to New Jersey, where they continued to build cherished memories.

A devoted husband, father, and friend, Mick is survived by his loving son, many nieces and nephews, and his close friend and devoted caretaker, Denise Trombetta. He was preceded in death by his beloved siblings: Ana, Alice, Marie, and Tommy.

Though Mick was a quiet man, he was a constant and strong presence in the lives of those who knew him. His passion for sports was well-known—he was a devoted fan of the Flyers, Phillies, and Eagles, rarely missing a game. His true joy, however, was bowling. Mick was a skilled and competitive bowler, known for his speed and precision in leagues throughout the years. He also had a deep love for animals and a lifelong hobby of collecting antiques, each piece reflecting his unique taste and personality.

In his later years, Mick resided at the Washington Township Senior Living Center, where he made many friends among the residents and staff. He was well-loved for his warm, engaging nature, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mick’s family and friends will gather to honor his memory at a Funeral Service on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Gabriel's Church, 2917 Dickinson Street, Philadelphia, PA 19146. Visitation will take place from 10:00 to 10:45 A.M. at the church.

Following the service, Mick will be laid to rest at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 240 Lower Landing Road, Blackwood, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mick’s memory to The Schuylkill and Devil’s Pocket Veteran’s Memorial, 613 S. Bambrey Street, Philadelphia, PA 19146.

Mick will forever be remembered for his kind heart, his loyalty to his loved ones, and his enduring love for life. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the many lives he touched.
