John Lawrence “Jack” Foy, age 71, of Drexel Hill, PA sadly passed away on October 26, 2023.
Jack is survived by his brothers James H. Foy, III and Francis X. Foy, and his sisters Eleanor Breslin and Eileen Foy, as well as nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents James H. Foy, II and Frances “Toots” (Gorman) Foy, his brother Joseph Foy, sister Ann Sherwood, and sister Mary Armstrong.
Jack grew up in Southwest Philadelphia and attended Most Blessed Sacrament elementary school. He is a 1971 graduate of West Catholic High School for Boys, and worked for 26 years at Cigna Insurance Company in Center City Philadelphia as an operations supervisor. He then worked for 10 years at Williamslea-Tag in Philadelphia as a supervisor of office services.
Jack will be greatly missed by his large immediate and extended family, but also by the multitude of friends he made throughout his life. Jack lived every day to the fullest and was always the life of the party. People who knew him will remember his sense of humor, his distinct laugh, and his entertaining stories. He loved working and socializing in Center City, spending time with his friends at Philly establishments including Mace’s Crossing and Oscar’s Tavern on Sansom Street.
While Jack made a positive impact wherever he went, the dance floor was one of the places he really stood out from the crowd. If there was good music playing, Jack was the first person to get up and dance and the last to sit down. People lined up to dance with him because he always made it a fun, joyful experience.
He was very proud of his Irish heritage and was fiercely loyal to his family, even when there were disagreements. He cared for both his parents before they passed and was a loving uncle to all his nieces and nephews – always generously remembering birthdays, holidays, graduations and special occasions.
Jack has had a significant impact on so many lives. Please feel free to share your stories about him on this forum.
