John Finnegan Obituary

John Finnegan, 59, of Exton PA passed away June 11 at his home doing what he most enjoyed, spending the day at home with his family and tending to his yard.

John is the son of the late Cornelius and Catherine (Burns) Finnegan and was born in Catonsville Maryland before moving to Audubon NJ. John graduated from Paul VI High School, earned his Bachelor’s from La Salle University and his MBA from St. Joseph’s University.

John enjoyed a long career in the Investment Management/Client Relations industry having worked at Delaware Investments, Turner Investments and most recently with Coho Partners. Throughout his nearly 40-year career John found success amongst the relationships he developed with his many colleagues, friends and clients. Many will tell you that it was because of John’s quiet yet impactful advice and care that he became both a reliable friend and mentor for decades. John was a long-time Adjunct Professor of Finance at his alma mater, La Salle.

John exemplified a simple life centered and rooted in faith, family and friendships. His greatest joy was his family. He was the loving husband of nearly 25 years to Kathleen (Bagnell) Finnegan. John and Kathy shared a love that was the essence of true and enduring friendship. Having met through mutual friends, they were a natural pairing and shared love and joy together each day.

John was the proud and loving father of his two beautiful sons, Tommy and Charlie. There was no greater focus or devotion than his boys. John spent countless hours and days with his boys whether playing, watching or talking about sports, school and life. His boys were the center of his world, always. When traveling for work, he rarely, if ever, would stay over, preferring to leave at sunrise and be home by sunset. His life of faith was exemplary and he passed this gift onto his beautiful boys. Faith was his guide and he quietly and humbly shared it through both words and actions.

In shared conversations and friendly banter, you always felt his focus. What seemed like a 10-minute phone call often resulted in an hour of being the recipient of John’s wit and wisdom. His warm tone, friendly smile and calming presence will forever be with those who knew him and considered him a friend. John’s friendship was a gift and an example of how to simply be a good and caring person in all aspects of your life.

John is survived by his loving siblings and family, Neil, Mike, Joe (Sharon), Kate Finnegan Haeffner (John) and Jim (Sandy). His beloved in-laws, Marie La Prise, Jane Ginsberg (Greg), Tom Bagnell (Andrea), John Bagnell and predeceased by his brothers-in-law Jimmy Bagnell and David La Prise. To his many adoring nieces and nephews, John was a cherished uncle whose influence and wisdom will leave a lasting impact.
