John Byrne Obituary

John F. "Jack" Byrne, Sr., aged 85, a long-time resident of Yeadon, PA, and a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2024, in Broomall, PA. Jack was born in Philadelphia on January 24, 1938, to the late William Byrne and Agnes Byrne, nee Bowe. His life was one marked by devotion to his family, his work, and his community, and he was a pillar of strength and love to all who knew him.

A proud graduate of West Catholic High School, Class of 1955, Jack carried the lessons of his youth throughout his life. He embraced the values of hard work and commitment, which were exemplified in his remarkable 65-year tenure as a union electrician with IBEW Local 98. His dedication to his craft was matched only by his dedication to his community, as he served as a founding member of the Yeadon Town Watch and contributed many years of service on the Yeadon Council and for the Yeadon Democratic Committee. Jack was also a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society.

Jack's life was beautifully interwoven with that of his wife of 59 years, Patricia Byrne, nee McBride. Together, they raised a loving family including their daughter Karen Vento and her spouse Francis McCourt, sons John F. Byrne, Jr., Kevin Byrne, William Byrne, and daughter Kelly Steuber with her spouse John Steuber. Jack was a guiding light in the lives of his grandchildren Caitlyn, Jacquelyn, Vincent, Kiley, Logan, and Estelle and great-granddaughter Kayla.

Known affectionately as "Jack" or “Jackie” to his friends and family, he was a brother to Eileen Boyle and William Byrne, and predeceased by his sister Marie Matson and brother James Byrne. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  Jack's presence was a constant in the lives of his siblings, and his guidance and humor will be deeply missed.

A lifelong fan of the Phillies and the Eagles, Jack's enthusiasm for his teams was infectious. His love for the game was only surpassed by his love for the Jersey Shore. The Irish Weekend Festival in North Wildwood was a particular favorite, a place where he could be found enjoying the music, the community, and the company of his loved ones.

Jack Byrne lived a life characterized by loving kindness and selflessness. His actions spoke volumes of the man he was, always putting others before himself and seeking to make a positive impact in the world. His legacy is one of unwavering support, a deep love for his family, and a life lived with purpose and joy. To say that Jack will be missed is an understatement. He will be remembered fondly as a man who made life brighter for everyone around him. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
