Johanne Freeman Obituary

Johanne R. Freeman (nee Blaine), age 86 of Media, PA and formerly of Newtown Square, PA peacefully went home to be with the Lord on December 25, 2025.  Born in Philadelphia, PA, daughter of the late James and Mary (nee Riddell) Blaine, she graduated from John Bartram High School in January of 1957.  Johanne taught dance at Kay’s Dance Studio in Southwest Philadelphia from 1952 – 1955 and performed on TV during the Children’s Hour on Sunday mornings.  She married Dennis R. Freeman on September 27, 1958 and they shared 65 years together.   She then went on to attend and graduate from Immaculata College with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration and Psychology as an adult in her 50’s. Johanne worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s newspaper and ice businesses and at SDF Tree Service, Inc for 20+ years.

Johanne faithfully followed Jesus Christ and had been active in her teen and early adult years in Christian Endeavor where she served and developed her foundation of faith and lifelong friends. She enjoyed time with her family, dancing with her late husband, writing and reading.  She spent several years caring for grandchildren and aging parents. Johanne was a kind, humble and caring person with a gentle spirit and servant’s heart. She’ll be remembered for her faithful love and consistent presence in our lives.  She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed

Most recently, Johanne attended New Hope Christian Church in Broomall, PA.  She faithfully served as writer and editor of various church newsletters over the years.  Like her late husband Dennis, she was a 40+ year member of the First Baptist Church of Newtown Township, where she had been a Deaconess and ran the Infant Nursery.

Johanne is predeceased by her husband, Dennis Freeman, her grandson, Timothy Freeman and her brother, James Blaine, Jr.  She is survived by her four children: Deborah (David) Ball, Mark (Winifred) Freeman, Paul (Karen) Freeman, and Stephen (Heather) Freeman. She is blessed with 13 grandchildren: Caleb (Sophia), Ethan, Simeon (Mari), Carlyn (Matt), Lauren (Alden), Andrew (Lexie), Aaron, Evan, Seth (Bea), Joel, Tèa, Connor, and Kalyn, 3 foster granddaughters and 10 great grandchildren.
