On February 3, 2026, our beautiful mother, Joan Cornillot-Henry, passed peacefully surrounded by her children. She was 88 years old, and it still wasn't enough time.
If you knew Joan, you knew the laugh. You knew the warmth. You knew that when she walked into a room, the whole place got a little softer, brighter.
She was a single mother who raised four kids and built a career as a managing editor at ASTM, at a time when few women were doing both. She made it look effortless, even when it wasn't, always finding a way to make hard things feel lighter. She had a gift for turning life into something beautiful.
Joan was a giver. She cared about everyone, rooted for the underdog, and had a deep love for what she called "characters." People who marched to their own drummer. She could turn anything into a great story and made everyone around her feel like they mattered.
In her 40s, she found love again with Cyrus Henry, and together they built a new chapter filled with family, love, and travel. She cared for him with devotion through his battle with Parkinson's. Through it all, she never lost her light. In her final hours, with a smile, she reminded us of her favorite quote: "You can't get out of this life alive" – and then, "I tried." Giving us permission to laugh, even then. Always taking care of us.
Nothing in Joan's life was more important than her family. She loved us beyond language. Beyond reason. Beyond time.
And we loved her completely.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son Carlos Cornillot, his wife Nancy Meconnahey, and her husband Cyrus Henry. She is survived by her children Hector Cornillot (Kim Merriman), Daniel Cornillot (Wenhua Piao Cornillot), and Jeanine Cornillot. She is also survived by Nathan Henry (Rachel Currans-Henry), Julie (David) Burnett, and Aden Henry, who came into her life through her marriage to Cyrus and quickly found a place in her enormous heart. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Michael Cornillot, David Cornillot, Shawn (Sydney) Cornillot, Madison (Justin) Fowler, Jacob Cornillot, Jasmine Cornillot, Erin Burnett, Desmond Henry, and Donovan Henry, as well as her many great-grandchildren and extended family, all of whom she adored.
