James Hutchinson Obituary

James Michael Hutchinson, 91 of West Chester, PA, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 surrounded by his family.  He was the loving husband of 65 years to Marie Barbara Hemighaus Hutchinson.

Born November 17, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Michael V Hutchinson and Marie McLaughlin Hutchinson.  Jimmy grew up in South Philadelphia and graduated from Archmere Academy, where he was an avid football player and then he studied business at Villanova University. Jimmy also served in the Korean War.  He had two careers including 35 years as a member of the Carpenters Union and then another 25 years working for the State of Pennsylvania with the Turnpike Division. As a devout Catholic, Jimmy was a parishioner of St Dorothy's in Drexel Hill and St Agnes in West Chester.

Jim was a constant and strong presence for all of us because he was so proud of his family and he always wanted to be involved in our daily lives.  He was always anxious to take over home improvement projects and this always came in handy with his carpenter skills. He loved being the center of attention, telling great stories and he always enjoyed a party.  He was also very fashionable and his style never looked out of place.  Most of all, Jimmy adored Ocean City New Jersey for the last 25 years as a place to relax and to enjoy the coastal style of life. As a member of the Ocean City Fishing Club, he enjoyed the pier as his favorite spot at the Jersey shore.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three sons: Michael, James Jr and Gerard (Jill).  He is also survived by his two grandsons: Cole and Neil.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Friday, February 06, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St Agnes Church in West Chester, PA.  The Funeral Mass will follow beginning at 11:00 AM.

Interment will be at St Agnes Cemetery in West Chester, PA after the Funeral Mass.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jimmy's name to St. Agnes Parish 233 West Gay St., West Chester, PA 19380.
